Engagement party is for family and a few close friends only. No gifts should be expected or requested, but some people may show up with a card, flowers or chapagne, but they are not obligated to. The purpose is to announce the wedding day, announce the bridal and groom party, show off the ring etc. This is a small casual party. I should be held shortly after an engagment has been made.
Bridal shower. Women only. Small and/or gifts of personal nature are expected. No registry is necesary because the registry is for the wedding gift, The Bridal shower is held about a month or two before the wedding. Some of them have "themes", games, drinks and finger food normally at someone’s residence. Your can have one or more showers but different people shoudl be invited to it. People offer to throw the bride a shower, bride shall not throw a shower for herself.

Some people opt to bring the gift with them to the reception, but it’s propper etiqutter to send the gift the days befor the wedding.Your guests may elect to buy a gift from the registry, but the registry is only a guide. Do not include registry information on the invitations as this is not proper ettiquette. You may tell your guests where you are registerered only if asked, or you can post it on your wedding website (if any).

GENTLE READER: The answer Miss Manners will give you is not what you would hear from most engaged couples or those who aid and abet them.
They tend to believe that marriage excites their relatives, friends, colleagues and acquaintances to the point of wanting to fulfill the couple’s every material wish. And couples are rarely shy about stating what those are. They have even had the effrontery to claim that etiquette requires this matrimonial grab-fest, or at least sanctions it.
It does not. There is no such thing as a marriage tax that comes due whenever the would-be recipients declare it is.
Engagement presents were a rarity until a decade or two ago. Perhaps a favorite aunt might be so moved, or a prospective mother-in-law might give the bride a family bauble to wear at the wedding. But no one showed up with a present at an engagement party, because the purpose of the party was for the parents to announce the engagement as a surprise.
