A must read for abuse survivors
If you've found yourself in one abusive relationship after another, I bet your exes would have fit the criteria laid out in this book (all of my exes did).What I really like is that Gillis mentions that many people will tell you not to trust your instincts, when your instincts are warning you about all of the red flags about that "sweet and great person that everybody adores." This book warns you about everything and can save you from getting into another toxic relationship. Everytime I saw a red flag about my exes, people told me that it was nothing..But, then I found those same red flags I noticed in this book.
Abusive Mates
The author did a lot of information search. I found this book to be more of how and why to avoid abusive relationships. It will be a plus to add to your library as a reference guide.

Perhaps the more difficult task is figuring out how to present your significant other with the engagement ring. They say diamonds are a girl’s best friend, and diamonds engagement rings are gaining in popularity. But if you really want to impress your girlfriend, you should concoct an elaborate plan to use during your ring presentation.
First, say that you have a present for her. Then act like you are getting down on one knee to propose, and stop in mid-motion and pretend that you were just scratching your leg. Then take out a box with a card in it, and say that that was the present. Presumably, you would be in a place like a restaurant during this exchange. If that’s the case, then wait a few minutes, and then offer to give her your real present. Get down on one knee, and give her a box that looks like a ring would be in it. Tell her to open it. Inside, you will have placed a golden necklace. She of course will have assumed that was the actual present and will be shocked when you actually present her with the diamond solitaires engagement ring, just as you are leaving the restaurant.

There are lots of places that will sell you large diamonds for relatively cheap, but they take hits on cut, color, and clarity.

Women Favor Jewelry for Valentine's Day—But Aren't All Getting It
Nearly one-third of women (29 percent) would choose jewelry if they could receive only one gift for Valentine's Day this year, according to a new survey by Sentient Decision Science for Sears.
Ranking second to jewelry were the other Valentine’s Day staples, flowers or chocolate, favored by 20 percent. Some 9 percent of women preferred perfume, and only 8 percent said the “latest technology product.”
Yet, despite this preference, another survey predicts that not every woman will receive the jewelry she wants on Feb. 14.
According to the American Express Spending & Saving Tracker, 29 percent of consumers are giving flowers for Valentine’s Day this year, with 19 percent giving gift cards, and only 15 percent giving jewelry.
