DIY Wedding - place cards and flower girl baskets
So we recently decided what we are doing for placecards, a variation of the lemon picture to the left. I'm really excited to see how they turn out!
I also recently lined wicker baskets and affixed some little yellow rosettes to them to use as flower girl baskets, and I'm really liking how they turned out.

ASK A MASTER GARDENER: Plan ahead for success
Dear Master Gardener: Last year I sent my girl friend some fresh flowers for Valentine’s Day, but after two days they were so wilted that they had to be thrown out. What are some long-lasting flowers that I could send this year?
Some flowers last longer after cutting than others, but other criteria enter into their longevity also. You will want flowers that are as fresh and recently cut as possible. But since flowers are often flown in from places as far away as Mexico and South America, many hours or even days may elapse before you see them. Look for flowers that look fresh and perky with stems that are not slimy but are green and smooth and have no brown leaves. Flowers not fully open are usually good choices, especially with roses. Some flowers with good track records for lasting one to two weeks are chrysanthemums, which come in many sizes, shapes and colors; carnations, which may be large or small and also come in many colors; alstroemeria, which have little name recognition but are commonly seen in many colors; and roses—lovely and beloved. Some less common choices are orchids, birds of paradise, tropical gingers, anthuriums and feathery proteas. Treatment after purchase is also very important. First prepare a vase by rinsing it with a little bleach because bacteria can live for months in a dry vase. Recut the stems an inch or two under water so that air does not get into the stem vascular system. Remove any leaves that will be under water and quickly put them into tepid water to which you have added florist’s preservative. Do not put aspirin or pennies or wine into the water! Do not place flowers near a heat source. They will benefit from spending nights in a cool spot. Change the water every other day, adding more florist’s preservative when you do so.
