Sturdy, presentable, inexpensive cakestandI bought this 3 tier cake stand to present a wedding cake that had separate small, medium, and large layers to be set on the 3 platforms. The stand was affordable and looked presentable in the picture, and hence I picked it. It came with clear assembly instructions, was easy to assemble, and was very sturdy once assembled (although see below). Note that the 3 plates on the stand are clear molded plastic, not glass or thick plexiglass. Also, it's a bit hard to see from the product photo so I'll note that the 3 plates don't overlap each other above and below - they're fully offset so you can put things on them that are taller than the height between them. Overall the stand did turn out to be clean looking and presentable. For the formality of the wedding reception we draped it with white linen napkins, but I would definitely use it undraped at home for desserts or appetizers at a less formal party. My only complaint is that one of legs was missing the notch needed to stop it from...
Unexpected
I was surprised when I got the order. First of all, I couldn't tell from the illusion of a picture if the three tiers were together or separate. THEY ARE TOGETHER. AS IN CONNECTED TO EACH OTHER. Each tier fits into holes in the next and they form a stationary three-tiered set. The clear stand is plastic, not glass.
Exactly What I Needed
Everyone is on a budget these days so I decided to make my own wedding cake. Rather than a traditional designed cake, I opted for a desert bar with seasonal pies and a series of cakes that I baked at home. This tray beautifully displayed a large 2 layered carrot cake, a 9 inch blueberry cake and 7 inch raspberry cake. I was able to surround the cakes with silk flowers and the display was just perfect. 8 apple pies, 2 pumpkin and these three cakes were gone in a flash and my husband and I had our picture perfect presentation.The stand was easy to assemble, clean and store. It will be used again this Christmas when I host dinner at our home.

Annual Bridal Expo draws a crowd of wedding planners
SANTA CRUZ - One thing was apparent Sunday at the 2012 Bridal Expo - the big day requires some real planning.
Of the more than 100 vendors on hand at the Cocoanut Grove event, there were cake makers, florists, tuxedo shops, designers, makeup artists, and venues for weddings and receptions. Throw in bridal gift registry options, caterers, wineries, entertainment, invitations and limo services. And don't forget wedding planners, financial planners, ministers and musicians.
Most of the couples looked excited and happy, with a few looking a bit stunned by all the choices.
Emily Johnson and Tom Shannon of Boulder Creek, who just got engaged Friday, were winding their way through a crowded spot at the expo Sunday when they stopped for a breather.
"They have a good selection," Johnson said. "I'm impressed, but it's a little overwhelming."
The event, sponsored by the Seaside Co., has been held for more than 20 years, organizers said.
"It's always been a success, but it's really picked up in the last few years," organizer Merry Crowen said. "It's a nice opportunity for local businesses."
