But where do you draw the line? No joke -- at one wedding I attended, they'd given the emcee a list of every "special date" in the entire month. I feel like once too many are listed, or if the dates are so far in time from the event at hand, it just dilutes the energy of the current celebration.
Is your wedding being held on a day that is also someone's anniversary or birthday? Are you going to mention it to your guests?
| 5/25/10 at 11:25 amNeither anniversaries nor birthdays were celebrated at a wedding I recently attended, but rather, memorials to relatives who had passed on. Candles were lit in every window and on a card was printed the name of the deceased loved one. While sentimentally touching to the couple many felt it was out-of-place, creepy and tacky to include memorials at a wedding.
Author Comment:@ Melissa: You might ponder whether he'd be okay with that. Lots of people might not like being made the center of attention for the whole room in that way. And there are plenty of people who wouldn't need the fuss, and might be uncomfortable with taking attention away. A heartfelt "happy birthday, dude!" from his best buddy, and an extra hug from the bride, might be what he'd prefer.

Wedding trends are Althoff grad's business
"Getting in the Martha Stewart magazine was a matter of every star aligning," said Kara, in a phone interview. "Quarterly, I'd send out packages of what I do to magazines. One of the editors at Martha Stewart saw one that arrived a couple weeks before Christmas last year. She was going to be in Chicago."
They met. Things worked out. Kara headed to New York for a photo shoot in January 2011. The magazine came out in December.
"In every magazine, they have expert advice people. In this one, it was a caterer, a florist and a invitation designer."

How did you decide to open your own business? "When I moved to Chicago, I worked for a large law firm in the marketing department," said Kara, who graduated from SIUE with a degree in marketing. "I prepared different advertisements and invitations for events. It was completely different. I didn't have a whole lot of creative freedom. At the same time, I was doing things such as baby announcements for friends. That built to bigger things. After a year and a half, it was time to break off and start my own business. I was 25 and didn't have a whole lot of responsibilities. If it didn't work out, I figured I could go back to corporate America."
