Yes you can, but note any decent futon falls in a higher price range so make sure there are plenty of lower-priced items on your registry. Also, consider shipping. Will the futon be assembled and need transport? Or will it come in a box and require assembly? Futon mattresses tend to be pretty heavy. If the wedding guest is paying for its transport it could get pricey, so I would aim for a store that includes shipping and makes the process easy.
Also, if you want someone to sleep on this futon, even just the odd overnight guest, do not get one with metals bars, they’re horribly uncomfortable. Go with wood slats, or even better, instead of a futon, get another type of convertible bed such as a davenport, they’re usually nicer and far more comfortable, and in the same price range.
Actually, in the old days, registries were unheard of. They are a fairly recent phenomenon of letting people know your china or silver pattern. Now registries have turned into a wish list of anything goes. If you don’t want to commit a terrible faux pas, Miss Manners says you would forgo the registry all together. At the very least she does not allow you to put any mention of gifts or the registry in the wedding invitation (that includes separate cards in the same envelope). You can put whatever you want on the registry, but don’t be surprised if you don’t receive everything you ask for.

O longer restricted to weddings and baby showers, online gift registries—perhaps the best way to avoid those dud presents —have become common for other birthdays, graduations and the holidays too .MyRegistry.com , a universal gift registry site that is now in its seventh year, lets users register for gifts at a multitude of stores instead of just choosing a few. The company has had registries that include as many as 10 different stores with requests ranging from a puppy to a private island.
Based upon their review of hundreds of thousands of users, MyRegistry has released the list of the top 10 hottest gifts of 2011 for three different gift occasions. And while many of those coveted gifts were created by big companies like Lenox, a few were the work of entrepreneur-started companies, like the Puj Tub from the company Puj —started by a couple who wanted better designed products for their children — and the Beats by Dr. Dre headphones by Monster.
